The Vegetarian (BS)

The Vegetarian: Before the disturbing dreams began, Yeong-hye and her husband lived an ordinary and controlled life. However, the nightmares—graphic and violent images—haunt her, compelling Yeong-hye to reject meat and cleanse her mind. This small act of defiance disrupts her marriage and sets off a grotesque series of events at home. As her husband, brother-in-law, and sister try to regain control, Yeong-hye fiercely defends her decision, which becomes increasingly sacred to her. Their attempts escalate into desperation, subjecting her mind and body to ever more invasive and disturbing acts, causing Yeong-hye to spiral into a strange and dangerous detachment from both her family and herself.

Lauded by critics globally, The Vegetarian is a dark, Kafkaesque story about power, obsession, and one woman’s attempt to break free from the external and internal violence that consumes her.
